Matt has recently heard from Allyson Craig about the possible return of the Castle Ashby Sprint. Allyson has spoken to Lord Compton about the possible return of the event and he is keen to see it resurrected..
Castle Ashby Sprint is held on the front drive of Lord Compton's magnificent Castle Ashby House close to Northampton.
Thinking back I remember previous events I went to as being in 1997 confirmed by my photo records and again in 2002 confirmed by the logo on the baseball caps we bought. I recall both occasions were on sunny days and large crowds from the general public as well as motorcycle enthusiasts turned out to see the classic and vintage bikes powering down the drive. This was something that hadn't been seen in the case of the 1997 meeting since before the war.
If the sprint was repeated in 2007 as stated in Matts email then somehow for reasons I cant recall now I missed it.

I am sure that there would be great interest in this event being reinstated and people would wish to support it however I am not sure how many of our club have speed machines – but inclusion of Classic road bike runs would be good. Reinstatement of the event, which I believe was last held around 2007 would I am sure be well received and supported by many classic clubs and it could easily become established on the annual classic calendar.
Setting of a date would wholly be down to Lord Compton and no doubt dependent on the Castle’s normal events programme. Local clubs who should automatically be invited include the Vintage Motorcycle Club ; Norton Owners Club; BSA Owners Club; Triumph Owners Clubs, The Oakley Motorcycle Club and the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club.
Of course to ensure a full programme / gauge interest with a greater degree of certainty would be to contact Moretons Media with a view to including a short outline of possible reinstatement of the event for inclusion in the “Old Bike Mart” ; Classic Bike and Classic Motorcycle and any other relevant publication.
