Balloon Festival Report.

Despite the threat of rain a group of hardy ENCMCC members met up at Pure Triumph at 10am today 30th August for a ride over to Sywell Airport for what we hoped would be a great event, especially as Mick Butterworth’s daughter Rachael was heavily involved in the events organisation. On arrival Keith and Kate were waiting for us, Kate having brought the club awnings so as to ensure no one got heat stroke in the blazing sun………..well we could dream couldn’t we – also turning up at Sywell was Phil Short  bringing our total two wheel display up to ten bikes!
No sooner had the awnings been erected and we discovered they had an alternative use…………..keeping us dry in the rain, and of course as everyone that ventured anywhere today in Northamptonshire knows it rained and it rained and even now after returning home and having something to eat it is still raining, why are August Bank Holidays always like this?
Whilst sitting  under cover moaning about the noise from the five foot high speakers that were just across the grass from us we were joined by Gerry and Family plus Pete Butterworth who chose to come on four wheels which although seemingly a very wise move neither seemed to have the advantage of motorcycle clothing as they were walking round the site getting wet. Disappointingly but fully understandable many of the traders had battened down the hatches and some were abandoning altogether – a great shame for the organisers.
We stuck it out for about 4 hours and despite everyone repeating the weather forecast for today according to “xyz”,  the weather beat us all and we set off home……………….that said I have just received a message that Mark’s Norton Commando had some rather major problems and was trailered from the site?
Those attending were  Matt on TRW 500, Mick Triumph T Bird, Less Honda 500, Keith Panther 120, Short Legs CB 250N, Rod  W650, Andy Triumph Jubilee, Chris James Super Luxe, Mark Norton Commando, Phil Tiger Cub.
Let’s Hope that next Saturdays Dean and Shelton Show gets some decent weather – I will try and arrange a ride in but otherwise be on site before noon.
