Our club night was enlivened by the presence of this rare in the uk 1958 Simson AWO 425.
The machine is owned by local enthusiast Keith Philpot who has been busy restoring it to good mechanical and cosmetic condition. Keiths aim is to restore the bike without over doing the paintwork and other finishes preferring instead to retain the look of a bike used daily in the period when it was built..
Similar in appearance and concept to the R25 BMW single the Simson is a 250cc pushrod operated four stroke with shaft final drive. This similarity to the West German BMW is no doubt more than a lucky coincidence.
Keith has written a short history of the Simson company and the situation it operated in for the VMCC. This story can be read free of charge by following this link.
