Every year in September the Macmillan Nurses charity holds a half day fund raising event called the Macmillan Big Coffee Morning.
The idea is that volunteer groups throughout the land will host an event where the public can partake of coffee, tea snacks or whatever and pay for the goodies provided, The monies collected are then passed on to the charity.
It was just a couple of years ago that the Encmcc encouraged by the Heart of England branch of the AJS and Matchless owners club jointly participated in a run to the morning event held at Salford village hall.
It was by this means that the club members found a way to participate in feel good charitable giving whist indulging in some of their favourite activities, riding bikes and eating. Its no surprise then that we have attended every event since.
This year as previously the Encmcc group set off from Wellingborough and I think the H of E set off from Woburn with the intention of arriving together at Salford.
We on the other hand having no legal running bike available set off in a Renault Kangoo from Northampton hoping to arrive about the same time.
As we approached Salford we spotted the H of E group emerging from a side road behind us and a few hundred yards later we arrived at the village hall to see the Encmcc group parking up outside. What perfect timing.
It was nice to see the guys again after being unable to join in any of the runs for some months, it was also nice to have an excellent breakfast for five pounds and the opportunity to lose a fiver on the raffle.
After breakfast and a walkabout outside we set off again in our old Kangoo only to find we were accidentally leading the Encmcc club run home. They followed us from Salford all the way to Olney were we turned off and waved goodbye.
I have finally managed to lead a club run this year.
Thanks to Lawrence and Matt for organising the run and to the Volunteers and the Macmillan \Nurses charity for providing the opportunity.
