Matt recently circulated an email to the membership to let us all know about this mainly car based event in Oundle. I for one had not heard of it before and its certainly not generally known about by general public.
Matts email included the following extract from the event publicity:

MORE EVENT DETAILS
Oundle isn’t planned to be the next film location for “Fast and Furious,” but the cars and motorcycles gathered and parading through town on 28th December will definitely deserve star billing, and what a lineup: elegant, eccentric, cool, classic, memorable, and unforgettable two and four-wheeled vehicles gather, gleaming and geared up for the first Oundle Classic Sprint – an event where Vintage, classic and historic cars and motorcycles will fill the streets – displayed, demonstrated, and driven with pride – through the picturesque Market Place and down historic North Street… offering great photo opportunities.
Vehicle sprints will be set off in categories: Vintage cars and Bikes(pre-war); Vintage cars and bikes(post war); Historic cars and Bikes (1960-1980); Classic Cars and bikes(1980-2000). To close the event, Rally cars of all eras will switch on their headlamps for a frosty twilight parade through the historic and attractive streets of Oundle.
This charming town offers a packed day delivering fun, food, and entertainment for all the family, from 10am till that chequered flag drops at four…. For a taste of the type of vehicles definitely attending check out YouTube Qprep Monthly Motors Meets. This will be a day to admire the engineering of groundbreaking vehicles on two wheels and four. A day to be reminded driving is fun – and of when it was still pioneering to pack a little power in your wheels….to take to the country lanes with a picnic hamper, with no fear of losing your joy in a traffic jam. A very special seasonal event… just when you thought Christmas had run out of steam, an injection of proud and loud petrol power…!

The event is sponsored by Nene Valley Brewery, Lunar Training, Qprep and Oundle Town Council, and all the profits will be donated to charities, mainly Help for Heroes.

The Encmcc ride to the sprint.
In response to all this, the usual group of hard bitten or is that frost bitten, mature riders gathered at Matts place in order to brave the elements and ride to the event.

Heres a report from Matt:
Four hardy souls (members of the 52 club – the part of the ENCMCC that ride all year round) set off from my house at around midday to visit the Oundle Sprint – roads were still slippery in places but a very pleasant trip via Aldwinkle and Waddenhoe  to Oundle High Street.
Being on bikes we had no trouble parking and made our way past various exotica to where the sprint racing was taking place however shortly before us getting there a lady from The Guernsey Road Club had spun her car, snapping the rear axle and doing many thousands of pounds damage to her immaculate vehicle – the lady suffered minor neck injuries as well as the huge dent to her pride and wallet  - although I guess being from Guernsey she will have the readies to get everything back on the road pretty quick.

Whilst there were about thirty bikes none were in my mind particularly outstanding although Rod was hankering after a 4 miles on the clock Lambretta LI 150 – the cars were a different matter ranging from Caterham 7 kit cars through to some fantastic Aston Martins and Bentley’s ……………….there are clearly lots of people unaffected by the squeeze on the pound. I attach a very small selection of those taking part in the event including a rather wonderful example of just how difficult it must have been to keep the early grand touring / racing machines on the road as  clearly displayed in the two pictures of the 1903 Sunbeam, which in my view was runner up to the  Gibbs Bentley Special – what a piece of kit especially when it roared through the streets.
If they hold the event next year maybe we can arrange a static club display – unless of course Doug and Andy want to race their smokers.

Matt

PS – I did meet up with a couple of other club members who arrived on four wheels
