91 on the 250 NSU

Last week phone a Friday morning  call at 0815 -  Trev and Rod going out for a spin was I interested? – well lots of work on however I needed the break so asked where they were going Rod rambled a bit but mentioned not far and Thrapston so I decided to get the NSU from the rear of the garage and see if I could remember how to start her as I had not used her for almost three months. Well amazed is the word that came to mind when she started first prod and immediately settled down to a nice lazy and relaxed beat.

.A gentle ride to Rods followed where Martyn on his BMW was waiting, then Trevor on his Honda Trail bike arrived.although Mark couldnt make it and Derrick is in the Isle of Man.
Rod wheeled out the Kawasaki to lead the ride as his Enfield has a poorly Sprag Clutch, gone again after just a few hundred miles since full sprag and cog replacement.

Off sped Rod and the others leaving me as tail end Charlie. Well there was no way I could keep up,  My NSU was a bit uncomfortable once above 45mph, it seemed like  a mixture problem. When they got caught up in traffic I nipped by and slotted myself in behind Rod to ask him to slow up a bit, but of course I couldn’t get Rod’s attention.
Thrapston came and went as did Oundle, The Giddings, and into Ramsey then left to Chatteris – some short ride out but eventually he worked our way back to the Bike shop at Ely.
We stopped briefly and whilst they went inside I tried to alter the mixture slightly. The bike shop didnt do tea so in a short time we were off again before a few more miles saw us going on to the other bike shop near Peterborough Greyhounds where the staple bacon sandwich and tea or coffee is available for the princely sum of £3.10p – a real bargain.
A bit more fettling and she was running a lot better on the return leg – Rod using main road whilst we followed Trevor on the back road route through Nassington and Fothringay eventually clocking 91 miles (not mph) on the NSU 250 Max Special.

Unfortunately No Photos! Maybe when others start wheeling bikes out this will be remedied
