I have just listened to a 30 minute program on radio 4 about Hans Degener. He raced for MZ in the 1950's and on the verge of winning his and East Germany's first world motorcycle champion ship he defected to the west. He did this by deliberately breaking down during a GP in Sweden once he knew his family had been smuggled across the German border.
He took with him all his two stroke knowledge and the advanced concepts of Dr Walter Kaden MZs engineer to Suzuki and went on to the championship with them.I expect many of you know the story but you might want to risk your download limit and try the BBC listen again service. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01byhrg
