30th March 2014: British Summer Time run to the "Duloe Daffodil Dash"

PictureYou dont have to polish your treasured classic.
Its the start of "British Summer Time" and unlike last year there is no snow on the ground and no icy roads.
At the start of "BST" the club usually has a ride out to Duloe to witness the moped based "Duloe Daffodil Run" but not last year when deep snow forced the cancellation of the event.
This year however seven bikes left Higham Ferrers market place in pleasant sunshine and rising temperatures and headed for Duloe. The biggest bike was a Kawasaki Vulcan and the smallest was a BSA Bantam. Gerry led the way on the Vulcan at a pace that was surprisingly brisk considering the little Bantam was in the group. After viewing the antics at Duloe and despite the thrashing the Bantam had been subjected to it started first kick when it set off for home. The rest of us then followed Gerry to the Green Welly cafe near Chatteris at what we shall call a brisk pace. There we indulged in a fine chip based lunch before wending our way home.
Its nice to be out and about on the bikes with friends again.

just a quick note, the gentleman on the bantam upon arrival at duloe said the pace had been spot on but, i think everyone enjoyed the run nonetheless.

regards gerry.

Gerry:
Thanks for leading the ride out it was really enjoyable and the weather you picked was perfect.
As regards the Bantam I know you checked with the rider about pace before we set off and that he was pleased that it behaved well just as he expected. I was the one who was surprised at the pace and reliability of the Bantam. Based on previous experience and bias against two strokes I expected it to expire at any point during the run but the bike was still running as sweet as a nut when we got to Duloe.
That's either a tribute to the maintenance and riding skills of the pilot or proof I don't know what I am talking about.
I shall settle for that being a true statement of the position.
cheers
John.

Ps: Apologies to the Bantam rider for failing to remember his name.

Hi Fellas - Steve here (the Bantam rider ...) it was a good pace and OK for me. A properly sorted Bantam D10/D14/B175 should comfortably make 50-55mph and a bit more if the rider isn't as fond
of the chip shop as I am. Gerry had it just right. It was a good event. Glad I went.
